The course is meant for those who already have a basic level of Dutch. You have to be able to understand simple spoken and written Dutch and to be able to express yourself in elementary written and spoken Dutch. Participants are expected to have finished high school education and they need to be able to study at home.
The course consists of two blocks from 6 weeks each.

The method we use is CODE 2. This method is meant for those who want to function or study on (or near) an academic level. It consists of an exercise book used in class and a corresponding cd-rom, which students will use to study independently at home. The CD-rom provides audio and video material for class preparation as well as exercises that students can do at home. During the lessons, we will focus mainly on speaking skills and grammar explanation. Everything that can be done individually will be done outside of class. Writing assignments are preferably sent by email to the teacher and reviewed in class so that classroom time can be used more efficiently. In 6 weeks, we'll study half of the book. We alternate every 6 weeks.

Participants are expected to spend about 6 hours per week on homework.

After finishing CODE 2 you should be able to perform at language level B1, meaning that you:

• Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
• Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
• Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

During the lessons we will focus on speaking and explanation. Everything that can be done individually will be done individually, outside the classroom. Writing assignments are preferably sent by email to the teacher so that the time in classroom can be used as efficiently as possible.
