You can join us either one week, a few weeks, or 6 weeks. This course is meant for people who have none or very little knowledge of the Dutch language.
In six weeks time you are taught the basics of Dutch language, you acquire a basic vocabulary of Dutch, you will be able to understand simple spoken and written Dutch and you will be able to express yourself in elementary written and spoken Dutch.

The method we use is CODE 1, This method is meant for those who want to function or study on a (near) academic level. CODE is a complete Dutch learning method in three parts, and prepares students for the State Examination of Dutch as a Second Language, program II. CODE is task-oriented. It consists of an exercise book with corresponding cd-rom, which students can largely study independently (at home). The CD-rom provides audio and video material and exercises that students can do at home. In class, students focus on activities which require the presence of a teacher or fellow students, such as the training of conversation skills. CODE pays considerable attention to the exchange of cultural experiences and offers much information about Dutch society. It has been named best learning method by the Dutch marketing research institution TNS NIPO, in a satisfaction survey about NT2 course material.

Participants are expected to spend about twenty hours per week on homework.

After finishing CODE 1 you should be able to perform at language level A2, meaning that you:

• can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
• can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
• can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

During the lessons we will focus on speaking and explanation. Everything that can be done individually will be done individually, outside the classroom. Writing assignments are preferably sent by email to the teacher so that the time in classroom can be used as efficiently as possible.
